नमस्ते

November 11th

Namaste’ Day

Namaste is a respectful way of saying hello. If you travel to many parts of India and Nepal and wish to greet someone with "Hello," you say "Namaste." The literal meaning of Namaste is,

“I bow to you.”

The Hindus believe that at the center of your heart chakra lies a divine soul.

By bowing, placing your hands together as though you’re praying and uttering the word, “Namaste,” you’re actually acknowledging the divine presence that lives inside every one of us.

The verbal greeting is part of a namaskar (a respectful greeting or parting salutation in Hindu) in which the greeter places his/her hands together in front of his/her heart and bows the head while saying namaste. When saying namaste, I’m not thinking about my daily responsibilities or an issue I must resolve. I take this moment to truly greet you or wish you well. Especially while performing the full namaskar greeting, with hands together and head bowed, I am consciously abandoning all thoughts of difference between myself and the person I am greeting. We are both of the divine, and to say “Namaste’” is to acknowledge the divine light in each of us. It is a way of reaching within to the divine light in yourself and honoring the divine light in another.

If you choose to say “Namaste’”, you can mean it as a respectful hello, or you can mean it as a part of your own spiritual practice in which you recognize the inherent sameness and sacredness within yourself and the person you are speaking to.

The Spiritual Significance of "Namaste"

It recognizes the belief that the life force, the divinity, the Self, or the God in me is the same in all. Acknowledging this oneness and equality with the meeting of the palms, we honor the god in the person we meet.

“The Divine in me honors the Divine in you. I honor your light, love and peace. It is also in me. We are united, we are one.”

Why the 11th?

Because 11 is the number of ‘new beginnings’, it’s hypothesized that anytime you see 11, 111 or 1111 on a clock, it represents an opportunity for philosophical manifestation. It’s believed the universe is creating an extremely powerful moment in which your intentions will manifest with a degree of speed and efficiency never before experienced. The number one is about new beginnings and fresh starts, and when you combine more of them together, you amplify their energy — which makes November 11 a manifesting powerhouse.

November 11 is a time to connect with your spiritual realm and a chance for you to explore that doorway to the unknown.
