The Tragedy Isn't That Life Ends. It's That We Keep Waiting.

There's something about that picture of a man sitting alone on a bench, staring across the New York skyline. Life is happening all around him. People are playing chess. Boats are moving across the water. The world continues turning.
And there he sits, lost in thought.
It makes me wonder how many of us are doing the same thing with our lives.
We know our time here is limited. Yet we live as though we have an endless supply of tomorrows.
We wait for more money. We wait for retirement. We wait for the perfect opportunity, the perfect relationship, or that magical moment when everything finally falls into place.
We tell ourselves, "One day, I'll start enjoying my life."
But how many of those days have already passed?
I've often said, "Every day is not one more day, but one less day."
Some people may find that depressing. I find it empowering. Because it reminds me that today matters.
And here's something important. Living doesn't mean constantly accomplishing something. It doesn't mean filling every hour with work, chasing success, or proving your worth.
Sometimes the most meaningful moments are the simplest. Sitting with someone you love. Having a conversation without checking your phone. Listening to music. Laughing. Watching the world go by.
The quality of our lives isn't measured by how much we accomplish, but by how deeply we experience the time we're given.
There's nothing wrong with having dreams for tomorrow. But there's something terribly sad about sacrificing every today while waiting for tomorrow to become perfect.
We are extraordinary creatures. We possess the ability to recognize our own existence, appreciate beauty, experience love, and understand that our time here is temporary.
What an incredible gift.
And what a terrible thing to waste.
So ask yourself something.
Are you actually living your life, or are you simply waiting for it to begin?
Because the tragedy is not that life ends.
It's that we know it does and still spend so much of it waiting.
Stop saving your life for someday.
Make today your day.
