Happy Birthday!

As I sit here writing this, somewhere a baby girl is being born.

Maybe by the time you read these words, she has already arrived.

A first breath.

A first cry.

A first heartbeat outside the safety and comfort of the womb.

A tiny human being entering a world she knows absolutely nothing about.

She doesn't know about money.

She doesn't know about success.

She doesn't know about failure.

She doesn't know about politics, religion, heartbreak, disappointment, or achievement.

She doesn't know about fear.

She doesn't know about love.

She simply arrives.

And somehow, that may be one of the most beautiful things in the world.

As I sit here thinking about her, I can't help but wonder.

What is waiting for this little girl?

Not tomorrow.

Not next year.

Not even ten years from now.

But throughout an entire lifetime.

Who will she become?

Will she grow up to be strong?

Will she be kind?

 Will she be brave?

Will she be creative?

Will she be the type of person who changes lives?

Will she be the type of person who quietly makes the world better without ever receiving recognition for it?

Will she become a teacher?

A mother?

A business owner?

A nurse?

An artist?

A dreamer?

A leader?

Or perhaps something nobody has imagined yet.

Right now, nobody knows.

Not the doctors.

Not her family.

Not the people anxiously waiting for updates.

Nobody knows.

Because today she is not a finished story.

She is merely the first page.

And that's what fascinates me.

Every life begins this way.

As a mystery.

As possibility.

As potential.

As a future hidden from everyone, including the person living it.

Today she is wrapped in blankets.

Tomorrow she will be crawling across a floor.

Soon she will take her first steps.

One day she will speak her first word.

One day she will ride a bicycle.

One day she will walk into a classroom.

One day she will make her first friend.

One day she will have her heart broken.

One day she will laugh so hard her stomach hurts.

One day she will cry herself to sleep.

One day she will fall down.

One day she will get back up.

One day she will wonder who she is.

One day she will discover strengths she never knew she possessed.

And one day she will realize that life is both far more beautiful and far more complicated than she ever imagined.

That's the strange thing about birthdays.

We celebrate them with balloons, candles, gifts, cake, and photographs.

But if you really think about it, a birthday is one of the greatest mysteries imaginable.

A human life has begun.

And nobody knows what happens next.

What lessons will she learn?

What victories will she celebrate?

What mistakes will she make?

 What dreams will she chase?

What fears will she overcome?

What scars will she carry?

What wisdom will she gain?

What gifts will she leave behind?

And perhaps the question that keeps returning to my mind is this:

Why this life?

Why this family?

Why these circumstances?

Why this exact moment in history?

Some people believe souls choose their families before birth.

Others believe life unfolds through chance, circumstance, and free will.

Some believe karma plays a role.

Others believe there is a divine plan unfolding beyond our understanding.

The truth is, I don't truly know.

And maybe neither do you.

But I find it fascinating that every one of us begins under imperfect circumstances.

Nobody gets a perfect beginning.

Nobody gets a perfect family.

Nobody gets a perfect life.

Every single one of us eventually encounters challenges we did not ask for.

Every single one of us eventually faces storms we did not deserve.

Every single one of us eventually discovers that life can be breathtakingly beautiful and painfully difficult at the very same time.

And yet somehow...

People rise.

That's what amazes me.

Human beings rise.

I've seen people born into difficult circumstances become extraordinary adults.

I've seen people overcome abuse, poverty, addiction, heartbreak, and loss.

I've seen people take pain and transform it into purpose.

I've seen people use their struggles to become kinder.

Wiser.

Stronger.

More compassionate.

More understanding.

More human.

Maybe that is one of life's greatest secrets.

Your beginning matters.

But it does not determine your ending.

Perhaps this little girl will grow up and become the person her family needs.

Perhaps she will inspire someone.

Perhaps she will save someone.

Perhaps she will change lives she never even meets.

Or perhaps she will simply become a good person who leaves the world a little better than she found it.

And honestly, that would be enough.

As I sit here thinking about this newborn baby girl, I realize something.

Today isn't only about her.

It's about all of us.

Because every single one of us was once that baby.

Every one of us entered this world as an unknown.

Someone held us.

Someone looked into our eyes.

Someone imagined our future.

Someone wondered who we would become.

Someone hoped life would be kind to us.

And here we are.

Older.

Wiser.

A little bruised perhaps.

A little scarred perhaps.

But still here.

Still learning.

Still growing.

Still becoming.

Maybe that's why birthdays matter so much.

Not because we are getting older.

But because they remind us that our stories are still being written.

Too many people live as though their best chapters are behind them.

I don't believe that.

Not for a twenty-year-old.

Not for a fifty-year-old.

Not for an eighty-year-old.

As long as there is breath in your lungs, there are still pages left to write.

There are still people to meet.

Still dreams to chase.

Still lessons to learn.

Still opportunities to love.

Still opportunities to forgive.

Still opportunities to begin again.

And perhaps that is the greatest gift hidden inside every birthday.

Hope.

The reminder that no matter what happened yesterday, tomorrow remains unwritten.

As I finish writing this, somewhere a little girl has taken her first breath.

A new story has begun.

An entirely new adventure is underway.

and while nobody knows exactly where that road will lead, I find comfort in knowing that possibility is still alive.

For her.

For you.

For me.

For all of us.

Happy Birthday Luciella!

Yes.

Absolutely.

But more importantly...

Welcome to the adventure.
