Insomnia? I can help!

Since we were born sleeping has been a very important part of our lives! Sleep is an essential function that allows your body and mind to recharge, leaving you refreshed and alert when you wake up. Healthy sleep also helps the body remain healthy and stave off diseases. Without enough sleep, the brain cannot function properly.

I’ve had several people inquire about trying hypnosis to help with their sleeping habits. Hypnosis is a natural, way to help you relax and prepare for sleep. Using hypnosis reduces the mind racing in the brain and helps you sleep.

Some feel that there is too much to do in the day and sleep ends up getting placed on the back burner. Getting a good night’s sleep will help your life and improve your health in many ways.

Healthy sleep promotes productivity.

A good night’s sleep will help keep your immune system in good shape. Quality sleep can fight off illnesses and disease.

A good night’s sleep will provide the energy you need for the day. It can also strength emotional health and stabilize your mood. Sleep will help you deal with stress and anxiety, so you’ll feel less easily stressed, a lot less anxious and less easily depressed.

People with good sleep habits are more productive.

Many people are sleep deprived! Studies show that a healthy night of sleep should include 5 to 6 REM/dream cycles per night. It is believed that the average person is getting only 3 to 4 cycles per night.

REM is not just a great band. REM is a very important part of our sleep.

What Is REM Sleep?

There are five sleep stages. The first four of five stages are classified as non-REM, and the final stage is known as REM sleep cycle. During sleep, the body cycles between REM and non-REM sleep:

Stage 1: Non-REM Stage 1 is a stage between sleep and wakefulness. The eyes open and close moderately, and muscles are still active.

Stage 2: In non-REM stage 2 it becomes gradually harder to wake the person.

Stages 3 & 4: Known as deep sleep, non-REM stages four and five are the stages of sleep that renew the body.

Stage 5: REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep is the sleep stage in which rapid and random eye movement occurs.

The first period of REM usually occurs after 90 minutes of sleep, and it recurs multiple times over the night, each instance lengthening in time. The final REM stage may last up to an hour. During REM sleep one’s breathing shallows and becomes more rapid, heart rate and blood pressure increase, and limb muscles become temporarily paralyzed. This is also the stage in which dreaming occurs. If you wake a person up during REM sleep, they will vividly recall their dreams.

Here are some helpful tips to help receive a good night’s sleep!

-There are a few simple things you can do to prepare for a restful night sleep. Try taking a warm bath or listen to relaxing music.

-Listen to soft music or a hypnosis recording.

Relaxing scents such as lavender, vanilla, chamomile or bergamot can help with sleep. Whether around the bedroom, on your pajamas, bed sheets can be very beneficial.

Journaling before bed can also be a tremendous release! Before you go to bed, write down anything you need to get off your chest and keep you awake. As you write it down you will release it from your thoughts. Anything that you know you cannot resolve during the next few hours of sleep.

In a relationship? Never go to bed angry. If you can’t come to an agreement, then at least agree to disagree, and let it go.

Limit alcohol intake before bed. Studies show that drinking alcohol is linked to poor sleep quality and it can also cause acid reflux.

Caffeinated beverages before bed can also keep you up.

Try to keep social media scrolling out of the bedroom. The bedroom should only be used for sleeping, making love, and reading before bed.

Meditation and deep breathing can also be very beneficial to a good night’s sleep.

Clothing worn to bed should be comfortable and not restricting.

Last thoughts! A great habit to follow is to make your last thoughts positive thoughts. What are your plans! Where would you like to vacation. Any goals? See them happening! Smile! Keep your thoughts pleasant and relaxing as you fall asleep. It also helps to place relaxing pictures and items before you go to bed.

Mantras can also help! Think of a statement and repeat it in your mind! A positive, calm statement such as “I am calm, I am relaxed, I am sleepy” repeated slowly, over and over will dull your mind and help you stay asleep longer.
